Good times
Well, finally seem to be getting convalescing; I’m in that gray state where you’re no longer delirious but not exactly feeling up going outside for extended periods of time. This was probably the best part of getting sick for me as a kid, when I was still sick enough to warrant staying home from school but feeling well enough to actually enjoy it. My grandmother, who lived with us and basically raised me for a number of years before I left for boarding school, would cook me some really great comfort food for lunch (typically seaweed soup with rice) and I’d sit around the house and maybe watch some TV. If I was lucky, some good Godzilla movie would be on, and I’d get to watch supersize monsters duke it out and flatten major sections of Tokyo to my delight.
The best part of those Godzilla movies, for me, were the incredibly huge urban Tokyo replicas that the production team had built just for total destruction. I just was completely fascinated by the precision and detail that went into building those sprawling models. I don’t know why, but models have always captured my imagination, and I could just sit and look at them for hours. That isn’t weird is it?
